Board Approves Calendar Updates, 2026-27 Meeting Schedule 

 The Guilford County Board of Education has approved modifications to its 2026-27 calendars based on updated calendars at local colleges and universities.  

In December, the date for North Carolina A&T State University's homecoming celebrations in 2026 was published, and the date of one fall optional teacher workday has been revised to align to this new date. This change impacts all GCS academic calendars for the 2026-2027 school year. The date for the fall optional teacher workday is Friday, Oct. 30, 2026. The revision also moves the end of the first quarter grading period to Thursday, Oct. 29, 2026. 
 
In addition, Spring Break 2027 dates have been confirmed for Greensboro College, Guilford College and UNC-Greensboro. The revised calendar for the early and middle colleges housed at these institutions has been updated to reflect their common Spring Break the week of March 8-12, 2027.  

Also on Tuesday, the school board approved its meeting calendar for the 2026-27 academic year. In general, meetings will continue to be held on the second Tuesday of each month. The exception is June 2027, when the Board will hold a work session on the second Tuesday and conduct its regular business meeting on the last Thursday of the month. 

The schedule includes two meetings in July 2026. These meetings will allow the Board to consider student assignment appeals to ensure families have adequate time to prepare for the upcoming school year, as well as allow the Board to take action on timely personnel or operational matters.
