At its meeting on April 14, the Board of Education recognized Mrs. Tena Roberson and Mrs. Shatonia Taylor as the GCS Volunteers of the Month for April 2026.

As PTSA leaders, they have made an extraordinary impact on our school community, taking the initiative to organize annual fundraisers and family-centered events. They “coordinate with teachers, parents, and local businesses to set up fun activities” and have successfully “recruited a team of other volunteers to ensure events run smoothly.” Their efforts have led to higher event attendance, fostering a stronger sense of community among families, while the funds raised have directly supported the goal of celebrating our students. Through their proactive leadership, Mrs. Roberson and Mrs. Taylor have not only increased parent engagement but also strengthened school spirit, creating a welcoming, engaging, and supportive environment for students, families, and staff alike. They exemplify the vital role volunteers play in the success of our schools, and we are deeply grateful for their dedication, energy, and commitment,” says Terri Mills, Secretary/Office Support Staff at Southern Guilford High who nominated Mrs. Roberson and Mrs. Taylor.

As the GCS Volunteers of the Month, Mrs. Roberson and Mrs. Taylor were presented with a $50 gift card courtesy of Toyota of Greensboro. During April, their photos will hang at the district's central offices, Toyota of Greensboro, and Southern Guilford High School.
