“Encouraging a child means that one or more of the following critical life messages are coming through, either by word or by action: I believe in you, I trust you, I know you can handle this, you are listened to, you are cared for, you are very important to me.” — Barbara Coloroso
Students must be willing to put in the effort to acquire knowledge and essential skills. Any successful endeavor requires commitment, and students must be able to face obstacles with resilience and consistently strive for success. With determination and hard work, any student can achieve significant progress in their academic pursuits.
Whether you have one hour to contribute occasionally or have a desire to be a weekly volunteer, every opportunity we have to work with you is valued and appreciated.

For the safety of our students, and in compliance with our Board Policy 5015, volunteers who are 16 years old and older are required to register with GCS and complete a background check for any volunteer work that has the potential for unsupervised time with students.
We know our parents are our partners in their children’s education, and Guilford Parent Academy uses a number of strategies to reach parents, including FREE workshops and events on topics such as planning for college, helping with homework, bullying and staying healthy.
